Black Wedding Dress Trend

There has been a new trend lately…and it is brides wearing black to their weddings instead of traditional white.

It’s 2022, we have survived a pandemic, and brides are ready to let go of the traditional rules of weddings. A bride should wear what makes her feel the most beautiful and special! I’m sure that there will be some naysayers out there that will tell you not to wear black. But, rest assured bride that as long as it feels right to you, you are in the perfect dress for the occasion.

I recently read a CNN article that reported that “black wedding dress” has had high searches on Google Trends and that in September and October of 2021 it was searched more than “white wedding dresses”!

Laura McKeever, senior manager of brand PR at David’s Bridal, told CNN that brides are leaning toward going dark on their most joyous day as a way to buck tradition. She even told CNN, “This is by far our favorite trend and we are loving it. Black gowns are chic and dramatic.”

While wearing a black wedding dress seems to be starting a new trend now. Refinery29 has noted in a recent article some celebrities who have participated in this trend previously.

For decades now, brides have worn black wedding dresses: Sarah Jessica Parker wore a black ball gown by Morgane Le Fay for her 1997 wedding to Matthew Broderick; Selling Sunset’s Christine Quinn sported a black princess-like dress in 2019, and Chloë Sevigny chose a skin-tight long-sleeved black dress with matching booties for her City Hall nuptials in 2020.

So…here comes the bride…all dressed in B L A C K
